Our vision for nature-positive future for Bangladesh
Bangladesh lives and thrives on water. The Ganges, Brahmaputra and Mekong rivers are not only important water resources in Bangladesh, but also have a profound impact on the country's landscape and culture. Let us follow the river to explore, and jointly build a vision for Bangladesh in 2120 based on the process of co-prosperity between nature and human. Based on the Bangladesh 2100 Vision, NbS Goals, and relevant documents from international organizations such as IUCN, UNSECO, and FAO, we comprehensively proposed the vision of the project, “For Bangladesh’s 2120”. 5 key words:Water Biodiversity Agriculture Human Dynamic Five key words are central to addressing the adaptation challenge in Bangladesh. They represent the important part of sustainable development, including “natural characteristics- natural issues”, “socio-economic characteristics- socio-economic issues”, and “agricultural characteristics- agricultural issues”.
Our choices for a specific region
In the process of exploration, we first considered the natural and cultural characters of Bangladesh. Through the identification and analysis of landscape characters, we present the important, characteristics of each region. 15 different Landscape character types were identified. The proximity to Chittagong and the Sundarbans National Park makes the offshore islands not only have great shipping potential, but also have a rich biodiversity. Nature, industry, and settlements coexist here. Located at the junction of rivers and seas, four types of basins make the Zone 15 rich in water resources. And its the interface between brackish and freshwater, resulting in a varied habitat pattern. There are also three important endangered species, including the Bengal tiger, the Ganges crocodile, and the Ganges dolphin. The Zone 15 (offshore islands) were chosen for our further study, which aligns well with the national vision of Bangladesh and our theme.
